Written Statement

As a member of the COC Athletes Commission, I will bring years of experience, having represented Canada for almost 2 decades and in both a summer and winter sport. Through the unique experiences of having competed in Athletics and Bobsleigh, I have gained much insight on the different perspectives regarding athlete needs. Furthermore, I understand how important the athletes voice is in advocacy and the need in representation for my fellow BIPOC Olympic, Pan Am and high-performance athletes. Athletes and the athlete voice should always be priority when wanting to understand the needs of athletes.

My vision for the COC Athletes Commission is for a stronger push for athletes rights and safety; where athletes can compete in a safe, supportive and equitable environment; one that is transparent and unbiased. This is achievable by having athletes at the table of the many decision-makers, where their perspectives can be heard, understood and included. I have been fortunate to be in some of these discussions, like being apart of the Safe Sport working group.

Lastly, I believe that representation of BIPOC athletes is very important in opening the door for more diversity and having an inclusive understanding for all parties involved in the Canadian sport system. My vision is to be a part of a legacy that not only makes a difference but improves sport for the next generation of athletes to come.
